The Martinsville High School Boy’s Cross Country Team finished fourth at the Columbus North Regional and advances to next week’s Semi-State in Brown County. At the Regional, the top five teams and the top 10 runners not attached to an advancing team qualify for Semi-State. Going into the meet, we knew the first three spots would be locked up by Columbus North, Jennings County and Seymour. With this in mind, we set our sights on finishing in front of Brown County and Austin. On Tuesday, we started talking about who we had to beat to advance and today our runners showed up knowing that every place counted. Our boys competed start to finish and at the end of the day, we finished 4th and advanced to the Semi-State for the first time since 2013.

Carson Heath ran a fantastic race from start to finish. Heath finished in 3rd place with a personal best time of 15:53 but I think his main focus was on helping the team advance.
Martin Barco finished in 21st place in a time of 17:09. Martin ran very well and continues to improve each week.
Griffin Worzella is another runner that continues to improve each week. He works hard each and every day and that hard work is paying off. Griffin finished in 32nd place with a personal best time of 17:45.
David Eggleton was our next finisher with a 42nd place finish and a time of 18:17. I remember telling David that he needed to finish in front of the Brown County runner that was racing to the finish with him. David nodded his head, shifted gears and beat the runner.
Finishing out the scoring for us was Easton Collier in 63rd place with a time of 19:04. Easton had a great week of practice with the goal of doing his part to help the team advance.
Hayden miles is having a great senior season. He finished in 69 place with a time of 19:19.
Wyatt Collins finished in 76th place for us with a time of 20:09. He thrives under pressure and continues to improve each week.

There were so many factors that could have put us in 6th place and ended our journey but instead we competed. It was a total team effort. Our boys showed up, met their performance goals and the rest is history. On to Semi-State. Very proud of our entire team.
