Franklin Central Captures Lead Early To Defeat Martinsville Artesians Baseball Varsity
Martinsville Artesians Baseball Varsity fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 6-3 loss to Franklin Central on Monday. Franklin Central scored on a home run by Fitzpatrick, a single by Snider, a walk by Rigsby, and a groundout by Mcfadden in the second inning.
Martinsville Artesians Baseball Varsity lost despite out-hitting Franklin Central five to two.
Franklin Central fired up the offense in the second inning, when Fitzpatrick hit a solo homer.
Martinsville Artesians Baseball Varsity put up three runs in the seventh inning. Matt Thomas, Brandon Dodson, and Josh Ham all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Leach took the win for Franklin Central. He allowed three hits and three runs over six innings, striking out seven. Schmidlin threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Michael Hoppel was on the mound for Martinsville Artesians Baseball Varsity. He allowed two hits and five runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one. Nick Allen and Justin Reed entered the game as relief, throwing two and a third innings and two and a third innings respectively.
Ham went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Martinsville Artesians Baseball Varsity in hits.
Franklin Central didn’t commit a single error in the field. Fitzpatrick had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.
